Oyster Bay
Located on the south side of Sarasota, Oyster Bay is one of Sarasota's most distinguished small enclaves. Many of the homesites are located right along Roberts Bay with a view of Siesta Key across the water. You also have the extra advantage of deep sailboat water right at your doorstep. In addition to bayside, you have a choice of lakefront or interior locations. Since theOyster Bay Real estate subdivision has been around for a long time, you'll find everything from large estate homes to smaller old Florida ranch styles, and many of the older homes have been completely renovated for a new updated look. There are 168 properties in this exclusive neighborhood, and homes here average anywhere from 2,000-6,000 square feet. Prices range from $500,000 to over $5 million for waterfront properties. As with most of the established communities, Oyster Bay has the advantage of mature oak trees and lush landscaping. Adjoining the property is the highly acclaimed Field Oyster Bay propertiesClub which provides its 600 members with tennis, yachting and social events on its 11-acre property. Originally the winter home of Stanley and Sara Carroll Brown Field, the club was originally one of several winter homes built on the "Gold Coast" of Florida during the 1910s and 1920s by the wealthy residents inhabiting the area. In 1957 the Fields offered the property to any club that would be interested in using it for club purposes for the sum of $175,000, unfortunately no Sarasota club at the time was interested in the property. A group of members of the Sarasota Yacht Club purchased the property and agreed to the Fields terms and The Field Club was born. In 1986 The Field Club was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the Field Club's members enjoy boating, tennis, swimming and a variety of activities that started with the vision of a winter resort home built by Stanley Field in 1925-27. Oyster Bay residents may choose to join this private club or participate in countless other activities that the urban setting provides. Siesta Key Beach with its world famous sand is right across the bridge. St. Armands Circle, a stylish shopping district is just a few minutes away. Saks Fifth Avenue and other fine stores are almost across the street, and there are endless dining opportunities.
